Zach is in the middle of attempting to ask a schoolmate out on a date when his efforts are abruptly derailed by the sudden, unmistakable appearance of his mother, arriving in a bright pink van adorned with the inscription “Sweet Eva’s Bakery & Catering” across its side.

Before long, Jamie, Alan, and Mara arrive on the scene as well, adding to the chaos of the moment. It’s then that a noticeably lackluster, deflated Jamie finally reveals feelings he’s been harboring for the girl in question.

In a well-meaning but ultimately misguided attempt to help him express those feelings, Jamie’s efforts only serve to make matters considerably worse, a situation that reaches its awkward peak when she attempts to serenade the girl with an improvised love song, one whose lyrics amount to little more than a repeated, tuneless “What are these butterflies in my tummy? Why do they flutter when she looks my way?”
