Progressive’s latest commercial introduces a new character, Nancy Dawson, a “Passive Progressive” who doesn’t have Progressive insurance and vents her frustrations on those who do.
The humorous 30-second spot is set at a junior soccer game fundraiser, where Nancy works as a ticket seller. Throughout the ad, Nancy interacts with parents who saved money by switching to Progressive, making snarky comments about their savings. When a mother says she needs to buy her son new cleats, Nancy sarcastically remarks, “I bet you can buy the whole team new cleats with all that money you saved.” Noticing that a father saved $800 by switching to Progressive, she suggests he use the money for private coaching for his son. Finally, when another woman comes over to buy tickets, Nancy hands her the whole roll, pointedly acknowledging her savings with Progressive.
The ad concludes with the voiceover reminding viewers, “Don’t be Passive Progressive. Switch to Progressive and you could save hundreds.”
A second commercial features Tom, another Passive Progressive character, whose passive-aggressive sarcasm at the office leads him into trouble.
