Kamala Harris was officially announced as Joe Biden’s running mate for Vice President on August 11, 2020. This marked her nomination as the Vice Presidential candidate for the Democratic Party in the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Harris became the first Black woman and the first South Asian American woman to be nominated for vice president by a major political party in the United States.

Kamala Harris officially launched her 2024 presidential campaign after President Joe Biden unexpectedly withdrew from the race in July. She was formally declared the Democratic nominee on August 5, 2024.
