FIAT 500e Italy in America Spike Lee & Giancarlo Esposito Commercial

Three and a half decades after the release of “Do The Right Thing,” Spike Lee and Giancarlo Esposito reunite, infusing an Italian-American flair into their collaboration with the debut of the all-new Fiat 500e. The two find “Italy in America” in the new ad campaign for the all-electric vehicle from the Italian automaker, directed by Spike Lee himself.

In the main campaign spot, Emmy-nominated actor Giancarlo Esposito shares his Italian heritage with Lee, embarking on a journey to uncover Lee’s “inner Italian” alongside the Fiat 500e. Esposito, surprising his friend by revealing his half-Italian lineage and his choice of driving the Fiat 500e, sets the stage for their exploration.

The duo, with a friendship spanning over four decades, is depicted cruising through the city in the new Fiat 500e, indulging in gelato, donning tailored Italian attire, and enjoying an Italian film screening. “See, being Italian isn’t about where you’re from. It’s about what you value,” Esposito also says, while taking his companion to an Italian fashion store.

As the ad draws to a close, Esposito humorously queries Lee if he’s “feeling Italiano yet”, to which Lee enthusiastically responds, “I’m diggin’ this!” Esposito’s voiceover reinforces the message, saying “This is what an electric car is supposed to be”.

The “Italy in America” campaign, a collaboration between the FIAT brand and Rosewood Creative agency, debuted on social media and digital platforms on May 1st, and is slated to continue through the seasons. Alongside the launch ad, numerous creative pieces featuring Lee and Esposito will follow.

The all-new 2024 Fiat 500e, crafted at the historic Mirafiori factory in Turin, Italy, is now available at FIAT North America showrooms. Equipped with a 42-kWh battery offering an estimated range of 149 miles (240 kilometers) and a Level 2 (11 kW) charging capability, it heralds a new era of sustainable driving.
