Toyota promotes its 2024 TACOMA and the upcoming superhero film Blue Beetle, based on the DC Comics character Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle, in a new commercial.
The spot features a woman and a man having a conversation in front of their block. Noticing the Blue Beetle, the woman says it must be cool to have superpowers. “Not as cool as my Tacoma,” answers the man, who is offended by her statement, saying “it’s just a truck”, and aims to point out there’s nothing tougher than that. He then starts listing some of the things the Tacoma can do, such as plowing over sand dunes, and always has a reply for the woman, who keeps praising the Blue Beetle. When she says that the Blue Beetle plows through bad guys, the Tacoma owner says this car crawls over massive rocks. As they have this argument, various other persons living in the nieghborhood show up and take a side. While some of them mention other capabilities the Blue Beetle has, others intervene to praise the Tacoma, which cuts through rivers, can make a sandstorm, and go off-grid. At some point, their unintelligible chatter is interrupted by an old lady who suggests they all ask the Blue Beetle himself.
“Maybe we should just…. team up?” the Blue Beetle says. “Ohh, team up,” the people in the nieghborhood say as if they would have never thought about it.
At the end of the commercial, the voiceover urges viewers to join the Toyota family and Blue Beetle in theaters, August 18.
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the film stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle, Bruna Marquezine, Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez.
