Dean Winters is back on the screens as Mayhem in a new Allstate commercial. This time, he is a candle that lights a girl’s house on fire.
Titled “Mayhem Promposal”, the spot features a teenager asking his girlfriend, Stacey, to be his date at the prom in a very romantic, but risky way.
He wrote “PROM?” under her window using candles, which he obviously lit so that she could see them at night. Unfortunately, Mayhem was there, anticipating that things will heat up. When a candle accidentally falls to the ground and a leaf starts burning, the fire soon expands to Stacey’s house. A tragedy was, luckily, avoided thanks to the early intervention of her father, who shows up with a fire extinguisher.
Mayhem warns homeowners that, if they don’t have the right home insurance coverage, they could end up paying for this kind of damage and urges them to get Allstate.
Mayhem took various forms in the past commercials. In one of them, he was a mouse that scared a homeowner on Christmas Eve and made her destroy the Christmas tree, in another one he was a groom’s football-obsessed best man, and in another one, the captain of a kids’ football team called Pee Wee.
Created by Leo Burnett Worldwide, Mayhem became, over the years, one of the most-recognized insurance advertising characters. In 2019, the Mayhem campaign featured, for the first time, another celebrity and that was Tina Fey. In January 2022, Winters returned as Mayhem to the screens after an 18-month break.
