International pop star Katy Perry has become the face of Australian-born food delivery brand Menulog and stars in a new campaign.
The singer is featured dressed in a series of bright and eccentric outfits, in a music video type of commercial, set to the tune of an original song, that touts the home delivery app. Throughout the loud and vibrant clip, she sings about different foods Menulog users can have delivered to their door.
The NRL fans haven’t been too happy to see the ad and even complained it was annoying as it was repeated in every ad break. The food delivery brand decided thus to pull the Katy Perry ad and go, instead, with another one featuring legendary Queensland player Wendell Sailor sleeping and brushing his teeth.
“For footy fans though, we know we may have slightly overcooked it with our advertising during game one of State of Origin. We thought for game two we could give viewers of rugby league’s most historic rivalry something completely different – a bit of Wendell Sailor,” Menulog Australia marketing director Simon Cheng said in a press release, mentioning that the Katy Perry ad “definitely isn’t going anywhere”.
