Roger Federer shares insight on the importance of his time off the court in Uniqlo’s Spring/Summer 2019 campaign.
The Swizz tennis icon stars in a 30-second ad that promotes the EZY Jeans, now at £34.90. “I could only think of tennis and nothing more when I first started. Once I began taking time for myself, that’s when I truly started winning. My time off the court is just as important as my time on because tennis is just the beginning of my story. I’m just getting started,” he says in voiceover, while on screen he is seen playing the piano in a luminous living room.
At the end of the video, he adds “My life. My Jeans,” which represents the tagline, and presents the jeans he’s wearing (EZY Jeans) as “authentic jeans with all day comfort”.
The brand says the collection of men’s jeans includes “fits for every ensemble, mood and style,” from regular fit jeans, that offer the ultimate in versatility, to skinny fit jeans, that provide a sleek, contemporary edge ideal for pairing with T-shirts and long-sleeved shirts, to Selvedge Jeans, that give any outfit a touch of vintage charm, to EZY Jeans, that offer most comfort and support.
Federer, who signed a $300 million endorsement deal with the Japanese retailer in July 2018 and has a gamewear set named after him and designed under the direction of UNIQLO U’s Christopher Lemaire, has also partnered over the years with other major brands including Rolex, Moet & Chandon, Jura, Wilson, and others. He was actually named “the king of athlete endorsements” based on the endorsement income between June 1, 2017 and June 1, 2018, surpassing LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, who were the second and the third, respectively, in this top.
