McDonald’s urges people to “Dream Bigger Together with Happy Meal & Barbie” in its latest campaign for the child-friendly menu.
The 30-second ad features a father and his little daughter in a McDonald’s restaurant, having a conversation that gives the man food for thought. “Dad, when I grow up, I wanna be a hero,” the girl tells him looking down to her plate. He answers she’s goona need a cape and a sidekick and a cool name like “Lady Bug,” but his daughter’s face makes him realize this is not the kind of hero she wants to be. Asked by her dad what kind of hero she wants to be, the girl shows him the Barbie firefighter doll she had found in her Happy Meal and says that’s the kind. At this point, her father, who it turns out is a firefighter, gently touches her shoulder and smiles at her.
“Dream bigger together Barbie” onscreen line reads at the end of the commercial.
Among the other available Barbie dolls within the Happy Meals are a doctor, a rock artist, a tennis player, a ballerina, a surfer and an astronaut.
On Happymeal.com, presented as “an online version of everything your family loves about Happy Meal,” visitors will find a variety of fun family activities, such as the Draw Together Game, which is “super fun and can get super wacky, in no time”.
