Cadbury highlights, in its latest advert, which tells the heart-warming story of a little girl buying her hard-working mom a gift for her birthday, that “there’s a glass and a half in everyone” and urges people to celebrate the little acts of kindness that happen everyday, “just because”.
The spot, titled “Mum’s Birthday”, which marks the debut work of creative agency VCCP for Cadbury, opens with a mother working in a fast-food restaurant who is late picking up her little girl from school. On their way home, as they are walking on a sidewalk, the woman gets a phone call and the kid enters a store, where she tells the clerk she wants a Cadbury chocolate for her mom. When it comes to pay for it, she takes out of her small purse some buttons and places them on the counter. Seeing that the store worker doesn’t want to give her the bar of Dairy Milk, she pulls other belongings that she’s willing to give away, including a medal, a ring with a pink stone, and a tiny unicorn toy. This time, the clerk takes the objects, pushes the chocolate on the counter towards her and gives her back, as change, the tiny unicorn.
The advert ends with the girl handing the Cadbury chocolate to her mom, wishing her Happy Birthday, and with the store clerk looking at the two as they hug each other.
Directed by Frederic Planchon of Academy, the ad is released with the tagline “There’s a glass and a half in everyone”.
