Amazon celebrates Giving Tuesday by launching an easy way for customers to donate a toy to a child in need this holiday via Alexa and Toys for Tots.

“This year, before you bring the holidays to your home, bring hope for the holidays to a child in need,” this is the message conveyed by the tech giant in the dedicated commercial. The 60-second spot opens with several families as they decorate together the Christmas tree, while listening to holiday music, and goes on with rewinding shots of those families as they get ready to welcome the holidays by bringing home the Christmas tree, baking cookies, and more. At some point, the image of a home takes center stage, with a mother entering the living room with a box of Christmas decorations in her hands. Before doing anything else, though, she stops in the middle of the room and asks Alexa to donate to Toys for Tots.

In order to make a donation, customers must simply say “Alexa, donate to Toys for Tots”. Subsequently, they will be presented with a reasonably priced item appropriate for kids across a broad range of ages directly from the Toys for Tots Charity List. Once confirmed by the customer, Amazon ships the order directly to Toys for Tots, creating a seamless path for easy holiday giving. Customers will have the chance to donate through the end of the year and Amazon is matching donations toy for toy.

This is the first time customers are able to donate an item to a charity using Alexa. Until now they only had the option to make monetary donations to a range of charities using the smart assistant. The Toys for Tots Charity List includes a variety of items, such as iconic Mickey and Minnie plush toys, Nerf footballs, Monopoly games and more.

Amazon users also have another option to support a cause this holiday season: they can start their shopping at smile.amazon.com and in this way Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price of eligible items to the charity they choose.
