Allstate Insurance Commercial - Serena Williams

Serena Williams stars in a new campaign film launched by Allstate Foundation Purple Purse to raise awareness of financial abuse.

The tennis legend, who is an Allstate Foundation Purple Purse ambassador, shines a light on this type of abuse, which happens in 99% of domestic violence cases and, yet, nearly 50% of Americans don’t know about it. “If I limped onto the court, you’d notice. If I had black eyes and broken bones, you’d notice. If I had marks on my arms and fear in my voice, you’d notice. It’d be easy to see that I need help, to know something was wrong. But what about the abuse you can’t see?” Williams asks in voiceover on the 60-second spot, titled “Invisible Weapon”.

“Financial abuse is an invisible weapon. It happens in 99% of domestic violence cases and it’s why many victims can’t just leave.” onscreen lines read at the end of the video, which also sees the tennis player urging viewers to join her in helping Purple Purse on their mission to end the cycle of abuse.

Those willing to help victims of financial abuse in their community can donate through the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Challenge at the Crowdrise website, in the “PurplePurseChallenge” section, now through October 31.
