Lidl UK highlights, in its Christmas advert, that “Clichés don’t make Christmas, it’s the moments that do”.
“We all know Christmas is never really like this. Come on, a pony and a polar bear?” – the voiceover asks at the
beginning of the 60-second spot, titled “Beautifully Normal”, that features clichés Christmas scenes, with a family of four, with two kids, in a perfectly clean house, around the Christmas tree and then in the front yard, waving to a polar bear which holds a white pony. “It’s time we did Christmas our way.” – the voiceover adds, inviting people to “embrace the mess makers, the chaos, noise, and awkward moments, the last-minute rush and the embarrassing dancers”. Scenes featuring families getting together, preparing their Christmas dinners, unwrapping gifts, dancing, laughing out loud, and having fun are then shown to illustrate the “awkward moments” the voiceover is talking about.
“Here’s to those who do Christmas in their own weird and wonderful ways. That’s more like it.” – the voiceover also
says, adding, finally, that “Clichés don’t make Christmas, these moments do”.
The music playing in the advert is a song titled “#beautifullynormal Christmas Song” performed by Santa Clara All Stars and released on November 10 as a single.
