GEICO continues its ad campaign highlighting that, by switching to GEICO, you could save 15% or more, with a new commercial featuring a referee struggling to separate his work and personal life, who can’t help but over-explain his dinner order.
The 30-second spot, titled “Referee Explanation”, begins with the referee’s wife saying to the waiter she’ll have the langoustine lobster ravioli and continues with the referee standing up when asked by the waiter what his order is. “The original call was for langoustini ravioli. A langoustine is a tiny kind of lobster. A slight shellfish allergy rules that out, plus my wife ordered the langoustine. I will have chicken tenders and tater tots.” – the man says in a resounding voice.
“If you’re a ref, you way over-explain things. It’s what you do. If you want to save 15% or more on car insurance, you switch to GEICO. It’s what you do.” – the voiceover says at the end of the spot. The spot also shows what happens when the waiter informs the referee that there aren’t tater tots: the latter stands up again and, in same resounding voice, orders nachos.
